What to do with all this FREE stuff!

What to do with all the FREE STUFF - maybe your thinking to yourself "I don't personally use the stuff your getting for FREE Jeff." The answer is simple you Donate it to charity.

There is a wonderful local Surprise Agency that could use your help. It's the Valley View Community Food Bank. Their address is 11081 North Milgard Way, Surprise AZ 85379 It was started by Jesse Ramirez and you can reach the Valley View Community Food Bank via phone at 623-214-2880. Their hours of operation: 9am-1pm Monday through Friday and they are open on Saturday to take in donations only from 9am - 1pm. They can always use non perishable food items and volunteers. I'm not sure if they take personal care items like toothpaste, toothbrushes and deodorant but would be willing to bet they do. They also take perishable food such as fresh fruits and vegetables.

In recent months they Valley View Community Food Bank has seen its recipients of products increase an additional 20 families per day.

With so many people falling upon harder times the food banks have been hit with a huge demand that can easily deplete available inventory. So we all need to help out our fellow neighbors in these tough and challenging times.

Bashas Doubling Coupons including $1 coupons

WOW - In California this type of deal was the norm where all the grocery stores doubled coupons up to $1 meaning the $1 off coupons got doubled up to $2 off. In Arizona I have noticed that all the grocery store double coupons up to $1 meaning (in most cases) fifty cent coupons get doubled to $1, 35 cent coupons equal 70 cents off and between 51 cents and $1 you get $1 off. Well this week starting today at Bashas they are doubling the $1 coupons to $2 off. So get out your coupon containers and lets save some money.

Today's out of pocket was high considering we normally don't spend a lot at the grocery stores but we were able to buy so much stuff. I estimate that before discounts and coupons and club card savings our total would have been approx $175.00 and after all coupons and discounts we spent out of pocket $54.73 because we bought some larger packs of paper products such as toilet paper and paper towels.

175.00 less $34.21 club card savings, less $3 vendor coupons, less $27.65 scanned coupons and $42.13 store coupons and $13.28 in other discounts making a savings of 69%

We had so many $1 off coupons some products created an overage (when the amount of the total coupon savings exceeds the value of the item) one example being pasta noodles that were on sale for $1.49 we had $1 off coupon that doubled and took $2 off the total order.

Always be on the lookout for coupon books in the stores on displays and from people passing out samples. Always be nice to the samplers and try to get as many coupons from them as you can. We picked up some $1 off 8th continent soy milk from a sampler at Albertsons and used the coupons at Bashas to get $2 off where as at Albertsons it would have been just $1 off.

Also how to tell if a coupon will be doubles (information deemed accurate but not guaranteed) if the barcode begins with a 9 it will usually not double...

Also be sure to visit Bashas website and get on their email mailing list. They sent out a $5 of $30 coupon. So what we should have done is split the order into two orders and used 2 of the coupons and saved an additional $5 and increased our savings percentage a couple of points. Oh well, there is always next week.

Some of the better deals we got were Crystal Light $.50 a box, Free Pasta Noodles, Bagelfuls for $.50 a box, Bar S Sausages for $.25 per pack, Kraft Mayo $.49 each, Kraft Easy Mac $FREE, Kraft Velvetta Shells and Cheese $.19 each, Pillsburry had some managers markdowns of $2 each plus throw in the coupons we had for $1 off and that was a good deal. They also had some molases on clearance for $1.50 a bottle.

Good luck and Good Savings

$2.99 Lobster Tails make great Lobster Tacos

OK - Another smoking hot deal about to expire this coming Tuesday May 26, 2009 at Albertsons. They have 3oz (approx) Lobster Tails for $2.99 (regular $9.99) I first purchased these about a week ago. I bought two of them. I found some Emeril's Lemon, Rosemary & Gaaahlic marinade in the clearance section for $1.

I cracked open the lobster by cutting straight down the tail from top to bottom and opened it up so my marinade could get in and stick to the lobster meat. I put into a zippered bag and set in the fridge.

The next day I fired up the grille nice and hot and cooked the lobster about 5 minutes each side. While the lobster was cooking I shredded some red cabbage, diced some red/white onions and made some baja sauce (see recipe and end) and sliced up some lime. I also got out the
Wholly Guacamole (used a $1/1 coupon on the single pack when it was on sale at Sprouts Farmers Market for $1.99) from the fridge along with two flour tortillas.

While the tortillas were on the griddle heating up, I took the lobster meat out of its shell licking my fingers the whole time. That Emeril's Marinade is darn good stuff. Mmmmmmm. I plated the tortillas and spread a layer of Guacamole down the center. I then stacked the lobster on the guacamole. Sprinkled some of the onions and a heaping tablespoon of baja sauce.

Next I heaved a whole hand full of the shredded cabbage and squeezed my lime over it all. When I was done I yelled out BAMMMMM! thinking I was cooking on the food network or something. I quickly sat down and shoveled the Lobster Tacos into my awaiting mouth. It was Delicious.

Baja Sauce: mix 1/2 cup Yogurt with 1/2 cup Mayo and then add a heaping tablespoon of home made salsa and stir (don't have home made salse try pace or your favorite bottled salsa).

Enjoy,
